Una possibile sbirciatina nella notte degli Oscar viene offerta ogni gennaio, poiché gli Screen Actors Guild Awards onorano l’eccellenza nel cinema e nella televisione. I SAG vantano un’impressionante track record di previsioni sugli attori che saliranno vittoriosamente dal podio agli Academy Awards: nei 25 anni precedenti, 21 attori principali che avevano rivendicato il premio SAG hanno continuato a reclamare l’Oscar di quell’anno, mentre 18 vincitori ha seguito un percorso simile al grande trofeo. Nel frattempo, in terra televisiva, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel ha vinto due delle sue quattro nomination, con vittorie come miglior cast comico e per Tony Shalhoub. Fosse / Verdon è anche salito sul podio con due vittorie nelle categorie miniserie/film TV (Michelle Williams e Sam Rockwell), mentre The Crown ha conquistato la categoria Best Drama Series.
La star di Game of Thrones Peter Dinklage ha avuto una notte splendente, così come Jennifer Aniston e Laura Dern.
