L’ultimo e forse il più grande indicatore chiave su quale attore potrebbe vincire un Oscar nelle principali categorie il mese prossimo è stato rivelato domenica sera, in quanto lo Screen Actors Guild Awards ha tenuto la sua 25a cerimonia annuale per onorare l’eccellenza nel cinema e nella televisione. Da quando i SAG Awards sono stati lanciati due decenni e mezzo fa, 20 attori principali hanno reclamato sia il premio SAG che l’Oscar di quell’anno, e 18 attrici principali hanno compiuto la stessa impresa.
Il che significa che Glenn Close e Rami Malek hanno appena ricevuto delle ottime notizie: appena usciti dalle loro vittorie al Golden Globe, la star di The Wife e il frontman di Bohemian Rhapsody hanno conquistato i trofei come migliore attrice e miglior attore nelle categorie Dramma, rispettivamente. Il bottino è stato distribuito su altri film, come il cast di Black Panther , Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place) e Mahershala Ali (Green Book ) erano tra quelli che si sono aggiudicati i premi. A Star Is Born , che è entrato nella notte con il maggior numero di nomination (quattro), è stato escluso, così come i tripli candidati BlacKkKlansman e The Favorite.
Oltre al cinema c’è anche la TV, – The Marvelous Mrs. Maiselnomination co-leader con Ozark – ha realizzato la performance più forte della serata vincendo tre delle sue quattro nomination, tra cui Best Comedy Ensemble e singoli riconoscimenti per Rachel Brosnahan e Tony Shalhoub. This Is Us ha portato a casa il premio per il miglior Drama Ensemble (con Sterling K. Brown, l’attore più nominato della serata, che ha raggiunto anche il palco più tardi quella notte come parte del cast di Black Panther), mentre Sandra Oh (Killing Eve), Jason Bateman (Ozark), anche Patricia Arquette (Escape at Dannemora), e Darren Criss (The Assassination of Gianni Versace) sono usciti vittoriosi.
