L’assediata e tormentata Hollywood Foreign Press Association ha annunciato lunedì le nomination per la 79a edizione dei Golden Globe Awards, con “Power of the Dog” di Netflix e “Belfast” di Focus Features che hanno ottenuto ben sette nomination. “Succession” della HBO, un dramma dinastico su un magnate dei media spietato e la sua famiglia, ha superato tutti gli spettacoli televisivi con cinque cenni del capo.

In passato, gli onori sarebbero stati accolti con un flusso di dichiarazioni di registi e star che esprimevano shock e gioia per essere stati riconosciuti dal gruppo. Ma l’HFPA è impantanato in una polemica sulla sua mancanza di diversità e pratiche etiche scadenti che hanno portato la NBC a cancellare la trasmissione televisiva nel 2022 e hanno fatto sì che i migliori studios e star si impegnassero a non lavorare con il gruppo fino a quando non avesse avviato le riforme.
All’inizio di quest’anno, l’HFPA è stata presa di mira per non avere membri neri nella sua organizzazione di circa 100 persone, accettando regali costosi per influenzare i loro voti e altri comportamenti non etici. Da allora, l’HFPA ha diversificato i suoi ranghi, rinnovato il suo statuto, vietato i regali, limitato i viaggi pagati e ha iniziato a subire un cambiamento fondamentale significativo.
In una lettera ottenuta da Variety la scorsa settimana , la presidente del gruppo Helen Hoehne ha rivelato che la cerimonia del 2022 sarà incentrata sugli sforzi filantropici dell’HFPA e ha invitato le celebrità a partecipare all’annuncio delle nomination, come negli anni tipici. Tuttavia, i Golden Globe 2022 sembrerà diverso dal solito poiché una nuvola incombe ancora sull’HFPA. Hoehne rivela le nomination durante un live streaming che ha visto anche Snoop Dogg leggere le selezioni del gruppo per il meglio della televisione e del cinema.
Nelle sue osservazioni, Hoehne ha definito il 2021 “un anno di cambiamento e riflessione” per il gruppo.
“Negli ultimi otto mesi, abbiamo lavorato instancabilmente come organizzazione per essere migliori”, ha aggiunto, osservando che il gruppo ha modificato il proprio statuto e aggiunto nuovi codici di condotta. “Abbiamo anche 21 nuovi membri”, ha detto Hoehne. “Il più grande e diversificato nella nostra storia di 79 anni. Non solo hanno portato una nuova prospettiva, ma idee che ci aiuteranno a continuare ad evolverci”.
I Globes una volta erano visti come un importante punto di riferimento per gli Oscar, ma non è chiaro quanto influenti si dimostreranno quest’anno. In segno della loro diminuita rilevanza, la Critics Choice Association annuncerà le sue nomination poche ore dopo che l’HFPA ha svelato le proprie selezioni. Qualche mese fa sarebbe stato impensabile un simile tamponamento.
Anche “Ted Lasso” e “The Morning Show” di Apple sono andati bene ai Globes, ottenendo quattro nomination ciascuno. Sul fronte cinematografico, “The Power of the Dog” e “Belfast” si contenderanno il titolo di miglior dramma insieme a “Dune”, “King Richard” e CODA”. La migliore commedia o gara musicale è tra “West Side Story”, “Licorice Pizza”, “Don’t Look Up”, “Cyrano” e “Tick, Tick … Boom!”
Netflix ha ottenuto il maggior numero di nomination ai film con 17 nomination per film come “The Power of the Dog”, “Don’t Look Up” e “Tick, Tick … Boom!” Per quanto riguarda il piccolo schermo e lo streaming, la HBO ha guidato le compagnie televisive con 15 nomination.
