“Oppenheimer” ha regnato domenica all’81° Golden Globe Awards proprio come una volta aveva svettato al botteghino estivo. L’esame approfondito di J. Robert Oppenheimer e la creazione della bomba atomica hanno ottenuto cinque vittorie, più di qualsiasi altro film, incluso il premio per il miglior film drammatico. “Poor Things”, una rivisitazione femminista della storia di Frankenstein, è stato nominato miglior film, musical o commedia, una delle due vittorie del film postmoderno.
Sul fronte televisivo, “Succession”, uno sguardo scabroso su un magnate alla Murdoch e sulla sua famiglia disfunzionale, ha vinto quattro premi principali, tra cui quello per la migliore serie drammatica. Lo spettacolo ha concluso la sua serie di quattro stagioni a maggio. “The Bear”, la storia di un ristorante di Chicago che fatica a tenere le porte aperte, ha vinto tre premi, tra cui quello per la migliore serie comica e il miglior attore e attrice protagonista in un musical o in una commedia per Jeremy Allen White e Ayo Edebiri.
Anche “Beef”, una commedia drammatica sulle conseguenze di un incidente stradale, ha vinto tre statuette: è stata nominata migliore serie limitata, mentre ha vinto premi di recitazione per Ali Wong e Steven Yeun. Lee Sung Jin, il creatore dello spettacolo, ha ringraziato l’autista della vita reale che lo ha spinto a realizzare la serie. “Signore, spero che suonerà il clacson, urlerà e ispirerà gli altri negli anni a venire”, ha detto.

La cerimonia è stata trasmessa sulla CBS, una nuova casa per la trasmissione televisiva, andata in onda sulla NBC dal 1996. Copre un periodo tumultuoso per la premiazione, che è stata scossa da scandali negli ultimi anni e sta cercando di reinventarsi. Per decenni, i Globes sono stati una tappa essenziale nella sfida degli spettacoli di premiazione di Hollywood, nonché una delle feste più calde della città. L’alcol scorreva liberamente durante lo spettacolo, che era più rilassato e meno inibito rispetto ai più noiosi Oscar.
Ma la festa si è interrotta nel 2021 con un rapporto bomba sul Los Angeles Times che ha rivelato che la Hollywood Foreign Press Association, una piccola raccolta di circa 90 giornalisti di intrattenimento che hanno votato ai Globes, non aveva membri neri. Secondo l’organizzazione , il 10% degli elettori dei Globes sono neri . Il nuovo spettacolo di premiazione a scopo di lucro è di proprietà di Dick Clark Productions, che condivide una società madre, Penske Media, con Variety .
Tra gli altri cambiamenti, i Globes hanno introdotto due nuove categorie: un premio per il miglior film di successo, andato a “Barbie”, e uno per lo speciale di cabaret, vinto da Ricky Gervais, cinque volte conduttore dei Globes. Come “Oppenheimer”, “Barbie” è stato un improbabile successo al botteghino in un settore dominato da film d’azione e fumetti, qualcosa che la sua star e produttrice Margot Robbie ha menzionato mentre accettava il premio blockbuster. Ha ringraziato Warner Bros. e Mattel, i sostenitori del film, per “aver letteralmente inventato numeri per giustificare il via libera a questo, e per essere poi rimasti a guardare in ogni fase del percorso”.

I Globes hanno un track record irregolare nel prevedere l’eventuale successo degli Oscar. I premi più importanti dell’anno scorso sono andati a “The Fabelmans” e “The Banshees of Inisherin”, ma è stato “Everything Everywhere All at Once” a vincere l’Oscar come miglior film. Ma altri vincitori dei Globes passati come “Nomadland” e “Green Book” hanno prevalso agli Oscar. Un discorso perfettamente calibrato può anche aiutare i contendenti a creare slancio. A tal fine, Robert Downey Jr. di “Oppenheimer”, tipicamente buffo mentre accettava il premio come miglior attore non protagonista, e Da’Vine Joy Randolph di “The Holdovers”, commossa e commossa mentre riceveva la statua di migliore attrice non protagonista, hanno elevato le loro candidature.
