“The Banshees of Inisherin” e “Everything Everywhere All at Once” hanno dominato le nomination agli Screen Actors Guild Awards 2023 mercoledì.
I due film hanno ottenuto cinque nomination ciascuno, eguagliando il record per la maggior parte delle nomination precedentemente stabilito da “Shakespeare in Love” (1998), “Chicago” (2002) e “Doubt” (2008).
Entrambi i film sono in lizza per il miglior premio d’insieme, considerato il più alto riconoscimento dello spettacolo di premi. Si sfideranno contro il film drammatico hollywoodiano di Damien Chazelle, “Babylon”, la storia semi-autobiografica di Steven Spielberg, “The Fabelmans”, e lo sguardo di Sarah Polley sull’aggressione sessuale in una comunità religiosa, “Women Talking”.
Qualche informazioni sui SAG Awards
I SAG Awards sono un importante punto di riferimento per gli Oscar, fornendo chiarezza sui veri favoriti in una stagione di premi traboccante di contendenti.
“Banshees”, la dark comedy irlandese dello scrittore e regista Martin McDonagh, continua a prendere slancio dopo aver vinto il premio per il miglior film, musical o commedia ai Golden Globes martedì sera. Ha ottenuto quattro nomination ai SAG per Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan e Kerry Condon.
“Everything Everywhere”, l’innovativa favola multiverso del duo di registi Daniels, ha ricevuto nomination per Michelle Yeoh e Ke Huy Quan, entrambe vincitrici di un Globe. Ma ha mostrato ulteriore forza raccogliendo nomination come attrice non protagonista per Jamie Lee Curtis e la star emergente Stephanie Hsu.
A differenza dei Golden Globes, che separano i suoi premi per genere, i SAG hanno abbracciato un numero rinfrescante di nuove scelte nella suddivisione.
La formazione della lista per l’attore protagonista è composta da tutti i debuttanti oltre a Farrell. C’erano Austin Butler (“Elvis”), Brendan Fraser (“The Whale”), Bill Nighy (“Living”) e una sorprendente inclusione di Adam Sandler (“Hustle”). Per Sandler, è stato un grande impulso alla campagna per l’attore, che è stato ignorato per acclamati ruoli in “Punch-Drunk Love” (2002) e “Uncut Gems” (2019).
Negli ultimi due anni, la formazione al SAG si è tradotta completamente negli Academy Awards. In tal caso, sarebbe la prima volta dal roster di tre uomini del 1934 composto da Clark Gable (“It Happened One Night”), Frank Morgan (“The Affairs of Cellini”) e William Powell (“The Thin Man”) che tutti i candidati agli Oscar sarebbero i debuttanti.
Le omissioni più scioccanti sono arrivate da “The Fabelmans”, che nonostante abbia raccolto nomination per l’ensemble e l’attore non protagonista Paul Dano, ha visto Michelle Williams snobbata. Invece, è stata trascurata a favore di Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”), Ana de Armas (“Blonde”), Danielle Deadwyler (“Till”), Cate Blanchett (“Tár”) e Viola Davis (“The Woman Re”).
Altri snobbi includevano la completa chiusura di “Glass Onion” di Rian Johnson, il sequel giallo di Netflix, “She Said” di Maria Schrader, un dramma sui giornalisti che hanno svelato la storia di Harvey Weinstein, e “Triangle of Sadness” di Ruben Östlund, un incisivo abbattimento dei ricchi e dei privilegiati.
Per quanto riguarda la TV, l’ultima stagione di Netflix di “Ozark” ha ottenuto quattro nomination, tra cui un ensemble drammatico, nonché nomination per Jason Bateman, Laura Linney e Julia Garner, che ha ottenuto un’altra nomination per il suo lavoro nella serie limitata “Inventing Anna. ” Tra le commedie televisive, “Barry” della HBO e “Only Murders in the Building” di Hulu hanno ottenuto tre nomination ciascuna.
Ci sono stati notevoli snodi con “House of the Dragon” della HBO e “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” di Amazon Prime Video che mancavano nelle nomination dell’ensemble drammatico.
Importante novità dei SAG Awards
Anche i SAG Awards hanno trovato una nuova casa. Lo spettacolo andrà in onda quest’anno sul canale YouTube di Netflix per poi passare allo streamer nel 2024. La cerimonia si svolgerà domenica 26 febbraio al Fairmont Century Plaza di Los Angeles.
