Sono state annunciate le nomination per la 95° edizione degli Academy Awards , e Everything Everywhere All at Once ha guidato il gruppo con ben 11 candidature, tra cui una nomination per il miglior film.
Anche Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Jamie Lee Curtis e Stephanie Hsu sono state premiate nelle categorie di recitazione, con Yeoh che ha fatto la storia come la prima donna asiatica a ricevere una nomination come miglior attrice.
Anche All Quiet on the Western Front e The Banshees of Inisherin sono stati ben riconosciuti martedì, ottenendo nove nomination ciascuno. E sebbene Black Panther: Wakanda Forever non abbia ottenuto un posto nel campo del miglior film, la nomination di Angela Bassett nella categoria Miglior attrice non protagonista l’ha resa la prima attrice di un film Marvel ad essere riconosciuta dagli Oscar.
Tom Cruise è stato tra gli snob notevoli di quest’anno, non riuscendo a raccogliere un cenno del capo come miglior attore per Top Gun: Maverick (sebbene il sequel d’azione abbia ottenuto sei nomination in totale, incluso il miglior film). James Cameron, nel frattempo, è stato escluso dalla gara per la migliore regia (per Avatar: The Way of Water )… come tutte le registe donne.
