Con sei Grammy conquistati durante la serata – tre nelle categorie minori, gli altri in quelle più importanti, cioè Album of the Year, Record of the Year e Best Song of the Year – Bruno Mars è il vincitore assoluto della 60° edizione dei Grammy Awards 2018: bene ma non benissimo è andata a Kendrick Lamar, che nonostante il pieno di nomination è stato costretto ad accontentarsi di cinque statuette, tre in categorie minori e due nelle categorie Best Rap Album e Best Rap/Sung Performance (quest’ultima condivisa con Rihanna), piazzandosi così alle spalle – ma a una sola incollatura – dal cantante, ballerino, multistrumentista, autore e produttore hawaiano.
Ed Sheeran, che non era considerato tra i papabili protagonisti, riesce comunque a centrare due bersagli, uno nelle categorie minori e uno in quella per la Best Pop Solo Performance.
I Grammy 2018 non hanno portato invece fortuna a Jay-Z, che giocando in casa, cioè a New York, sperava di racimolare almeno il titolo nella categoria Best Rap Album, assegnato invece a “DAMN.” di Kendrick Lamar. Childish Gambino, anche lui dato alla vigilia come possibile rivelazione dell’edizione 2018 degli “Oscar della musica”, è stato costretto ad accontentarsi di una sola statuetta, per giunta in una categoria minore – quella dedicata alla Traditional R&B performance.
Grande assente, il rock: al di fuori delle categorie dedicate – dove si sono fatti notare Foo Fighters, National, War on Drugs e Mastodon – i premi più importanti sono stati quasi completamente appannaggio di artisti (maschi) di estrazione rap, soul, urban e r’n’b.
