“All Quiet on the Western Front” ha dominato i BAFTA Awards a Londra domenica sera con sette vittorie da record, tra cui Miglior regista, Miglior film e Miglior film non in lingua inglese.
Nel frattempo, Colin Farrell “The Banshees Of Inisherin” ha vinto il secondo maggior numero di premi della serata, incluse entrambe le categorie di attori non protagonisti con vittorie per Barry Keoghan e Kerry Condon. Anche lo sceneggiatore e regista Martin Mcdonagh ha vinto per la sceneggiatura originale e per il miglior film britannico, anche se il suo colpo al produttore del film Searchlight – quando ha scherzato dicendo di aver ottenuto un premio per la sceneggiatura senza alcuna nota dallo studio – ha suscitato un misto risposta da parte del pubblico, con alcuni che potrebbero percepire il commento come arrogante. Il regista ha subito chiarito che non era serio, dicendo “scherzo, scherzo”.

Per il resto è stata una serata deludente per “Tár”, con lo sceneggiatore e regista Todd Field che ha perso nelle categorie Migliore sceneggiatura originale e Miglior regista. “Elvis” ha fatto leggermente meglio, oltre alla vittoria di Butler, il film ha vinto in tre categorie: Miglior trucco e parrucco, Miglior casting e Miglior costume. La costumista Catherine Martin non ha potuto partecipare, quindi suo marito e il regista di “Elvis” Baz Luhrmann hanno accettato a suo nome.
